Position Overview

SubCom is looking for optical engineers to lead design and implementation of high-capacity undersea fiber-optic networks. Successful candidate will work as part of the team of system designers and project engineers that help deliver undersea optical communication systems. They use computer modeling tools and data from products, experiments and deployed systems to develop new designs of state-of-the-art optical transmission systems. This person reports to the Senior Director of System Design and Product Management and will actively collaborate with people from Manufacturing, Project Management, Sales, and R&D organizations. Responsibilities include development of specifications for new systems and tracking their implementation during manufacturing, installation and commissioning. The job offers opportunities for exploratory work on new technologies and developing simulation software tools.

Responsibilities

• Ability to evaluate and optimize designs of fiber optics communication systems and components using computer modeling software tools.
• General knowledge of fiber properties, optical amplifiers (EDFA and Raman), and system performance metrics performance evaluation (Signal-to-Noise Ratio, BER, Q-factor)
• Understanding of physical principles and concepts for various telecommunication components.
• Ability to write Requirements Documents and compile Methods of Procedures for other groups.
• Strong presentation skills (ability to present proposed design solutions in front of co-workers and customers)
• Working knowledge of programing languages such as Matlab, Python, C++

Qualifications

• M.S. in EE, Optics or Physics or B.S. and relevant experience in the field of fiber optics and/or coherent optical communication (advanced degree is preferred).
• Fresh graduates are welcome if their graduate work includes relevant experience as part of the education process.
