This full-time, tenure track faculty member is responsible for teaching and evaluating students in Engineering lectures and laboratory settings in the STEM Division. The faculty member assists with decisions regarding instructional materials, participates in division and college-wide discussions and meetings, curriculum development and assessment, assists division with administrative and committee work, and fulfills other faculty responsibilities. Responsibilities may include assignment to support courses in related areas.Assignments may include instruction at the main and branch campuses.

Duties:

  1. Provides college level instruction in engineering lecture and laboratory courses. May include teaching in related college-level and support courses.
  2. Possesses the capability to deliver online lessons to students.
  3. Develops and updates course syllabi and related materials to reflect contemporary engineering theory and research.
  4. Provides investigative laboratory experiences utilizing the scientific method and related data analyses.
  5. Collaborates with other faculty in the development of effective teaching/learning and retention strategies for students.
  6. Actively participates in the planning, implementation, evaluation, and revision of the Engineering curriculum.
  7. Contributes to and/or generates reports and supportive materials for accrediting agencies.
  8. Provides student support by evaluating student progress and providing feedback, maintaining voice and email communication, referring students to appropriate support services, providing academic advice, maintaining office hours, maintaining appropriate academic and attendance records, and submitting final grades.
  9. Works with local high schools and transfer college partners to facilitate the growth of the STEM division programs.
  10. Implements the philosophy, mission, learning outcomes and objectives, curriculum, and policies of the College and the STEM Division.
  11. Maintains necessary academic records and submits records according to published deadlines.
  12. Demonstrates fairness and flexibility in interactions with a broad range of students by promoting and supporting the value of diversity and cultural sensitivity in all aspects of teaching and learning.
  13. Assists in the recommendation and acquisition of related instructional materials and supplies.
  14. Participates in a reasonable number of Divisional and College activities and committees which may include; the College Assembly, the Faculty Senate, Academic Council, search committees, divisional committees, program assessment and review, college accreditation, Student Activities, STEM club, and the Women in STEM Academy
  15. Contributes to the community as a representative of the College.
  16. Maintains professional competence through continuous participation in scientific endeavors, continuing education, professional self-development, research, and grant writing relevant to faculty responsibilities.
  17. Performs other duties, as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree from an accredited university in Engineering or related field with eighteen (18) graduate semester hours in engineering or related classes required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years classroom and/or lab experience teaching engineering in higher education (teaching assistant, lecture, lab, recitation experience accepted).
  • Ability to design and implement successful pedagogical strategies for students exhibiting a broad range of abilities
  • Prior experience utilizing innovative teaching methods, incorporating the use of technology and online resource strategies.
  • Possess appropriate technological equipment to handle online learning platform.
  • Fairness and flexibility in understanding and working with a wide variety of students and assisting them with adjusting to the intellectual environment and requirements of a college academic community
  • Possess the ability to work well and communicate effectively with prospective and current students, staff, faculty, administration, and colleagues and community partners
  • Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff and a commitment to a student-centered environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctorate in Engineering or equivalent field of study from an accredited institution.
  • Teaching experience in a community college setting.
  • Experience in Engineering or equivalent field of study research including in the peer-reviewed Engineering or equivalent field of study literature and/or the patent literature.
  • Grant investigations, writing, and implementation as an individual and/or part of a group submittal.
  • Experience in outcomes assessment and program evaluation methodologies.
