About the Department

The Stone Center for Research on Wealth Inequality and Mobility (SCRWIM) aspires to pursue research on the nature of contemporary inequalities, ranging from measurement issues to the study of mechanisms to evaluations of how public policies can ameliorate contemporary levels. The center's approach will emphasize that inequalities are the outcome of a multidimensional dynamic process that operates at the individual, family, social, and political levels and will focus on comprehensive views of inequality dynamics and intergenerational mobility. SCRWIM aims to build a vibrant and diverse network of researchers to make a meaningful impact in addressing inequality.

Job Summary

The James M. and Catherine T. Stone Center for Research on Wealth Inequality and Mobility (SCRWIM) is seeking to hire an inaugural full time Executive Director as the Center begins operations. Professor Steven N. Durlauf will be directing the Center, which will be located at the Harris School. The Center's research mandate is broad, covering all areas of inequality. Particular emphases will include wealth inequality and intergenerational mobility.

The Executive Director will be responsible for working closely with the faculty director and will manage full and part time staff to lead the day-to-day implementation of the Center's research agenda, to help coordinate events and communication between the Center and its partners, oversee the working paper series social media and developing a robust outreach and communications plan for the Center, ensuring the Center's work can reach diverse audiences that span the academic and policy worlds.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the management of the Center, including administration including hiring and budgeting.
  • Developing a strategies to facilitate into an internationally nationally recognized research center.
  • Coordination of Center activities with other Stone Centers in the US and abroad.
  • Organization of workshops, visitors, and summer schools on inequality.
  • Development of a Center website, working paper series, and social media presence.
  • Provides specialized professional expertise in program management. Implements plans for educational programs and initiatives and acts as a liaison between the program and program participants.
  • Plans and develops program objectives and/or content. Researches and identifies trends and needs and establishes program directions accordingly.
  • Develops and administers program budgets and recommends or makes budgetary recommendations.
  • Serves as a key resource for program information. Resolves problems or questions referred by program staff, University administrators, or other contingencies.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Education:
  • Bachelor of Arts or above in a social science field.

Experience:
  • Administrative experience in a research center context.
