Position Overview

If you're a skilled equipment operator looking for the next step in your career, our team can provide you with a fun and challenging opportunity to grow with an industry leader. In this role, you'll operate an excavator as you work alongside our construction and utility crews. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 1 years' experience operating an excavator, and a desire to learn and grow. If you've got the drive, we'll help you to reach your goals.

Location: Eugene OR is home base. Travel to Roseburg and Salem as needed.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a current member or able to join Operators#701.
  • Must have a valid Oregon Driver's license.
  • Minimum 1 years' experience in operating an excavator in a construction environment.
  • Ability to read and comprehend blueprints, site specifications, simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Safety minded professional who demonstrates good performance, attendance, and punctuality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age due to the nature of the working environment.
  • Report to the assigned job site in uniform and ready to begin work at the designated start time.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical exam and pre-employment controlled substance testing.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and nights as needed.
  • Demonstrates the ability to conform to and maintain OSHA, MSHA, DOT and all other company or state rules and regulations.
  • Must have current US Authorization to work or ability to obtain without company assistance prior to start date.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
  • Operate equipment safely and efficiently by utilizing equipment within its designed parameters.
  • Operate equipment in confined and high traffic areas.
  • Locate utilities and other buried lines prior to digging.
  • Shovel earth/dirt to prepare ground trenches for pipes.
  • Utilize equipment to remove earth and other debris in preparation for various utility projects.
  • May dig up existing ground pipes and other debris with manual tools as needed.
  • Safely attach various material to chains/guide wires.
  • Set up and move laser level/tripod and pipe lasers.
  • Knowledge of trenching and shoring standards.
  • Perform job site clean-up.
  • Perform minor servicing and maintenance or refer major problems to the supervisor.
  • Keep machines clean and maintained.
  • Keep time and material records.
  • Travel to and from various locations.
  • Lead team at job site.
  • Routinely assist other members of the workforce in different areas of production.
  • May operate heavy equipment to include front end loader, excavator, backhoe, or other equipment as needed.
  • Promptly communicate with supervisors on any flaws in material.
  • Take action to avoid potential hazards or obstructions.
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned to meet business needs.
  • Regular and timely attendance.
  • Participate in and promote an inclusive work environment.

The employee is frequently required to sit, climb, and use hands to signal and handle equipment. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms above their shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move anywhere up to 50-75 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

  • Regularly exposed to traffic hazards and moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud, however, PPE will be provided by our team to keep you safe. Please provide your own pair of steel-toed or composite-toed boots.
  • Job requires the following motions: bending, hammering, stooping, pushing, pulling, squatting, throwing. Walking and standing occupy most of the workday.
