Summary

Develops and deploys best-in-class environmental programs, systems and processes. Works with facility leadership, site strategic EHS team, operating staff and other EHS professionals in complying with federal, state and local environmental regulations. Uses the EHS long range plan as a template for continuous improvement of environmental metrics. Helps drive effective, sustainable implementation of corporate and local initiatives. Communicates with regulatory authorities without the assistance of senior EHS professional(s). Maintains an effective communication process with the locations operational and maintenance organizations. Provides training to facility employees and acts a technical EHS resource for site personnel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • 50%- Assist facility leadership with the execution of environmental programs, policies, procedures and regulations. Provide support to site strategic and tactical EHS teams. Typically, responsible for providing guidance on compliance with all relevant EPA, state and local regulatory requirements. Responsible for assisting the facility in complying with Clean Air Act including Title V, greenhouse gases and refrigerants. Understands compliance requirements for all air permit assessments and completes applications for new sources or existing source modifications. Understands the basic tenets of ventilation and air pollution control device design, parametric monitoring and operation. Completes necessary Title V reports, supports stack testing requirements and maintains the site emission inventory. Assists in the preparation of the ESG data collection and reporting for greenhouse gases and water usage.
  • 50%- Assists in the preparation of environmental reports including SARA 312 and SARA 313. Responsible for assisting the facility in complying with Clean Water Act and hazardous and solid waste regulations. May complete TRI, NPDES discharge reports to the EPA. Responsible for the design and assists in the implementation of the stormwater pollution prevention plans. Conducts audits to ensure EPA, state and local environmental compliance. Participates in incident investigations, develops corrective actions and enters information into Materion Safety. Assists the facilities' implementation of Process Safety Management and ISO 14000 sustainability efforts.

Qualifications

Education -
  • Required: BS in an EHS field and 10+ years of experience or a Master's degree and 4 years of experience.
  • Preferred: A MS degree in a relevant EHS field
Experience -
  • Required: Experience designing and implementing compliance strategies with EPA regulations. Relevant EPA regulations include: Air and water permitting, hazardous waste management, compliance assurance and auditing, environmental reporting for air water, process safety management, ventilation design, hazardous and solid waste.
  • Preferred: 10+ years of experience designing and implementing compliance strategies with EPA regulations.
  • Years of Experience: 5+ for MS and 10+ with a BS

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities -
  • Required: In depth compliance knowledge of the following EPA regulations: Air and water permitting and compliance assurance, environmental reporting for air water, hazardous and solid waste. Ventilation design, air pollution control operation and monitoring. Data collection and analysis for Materion's Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) process.
  • Develops policies and procedures based on regulatory requirements and corporate guidelines.
  • Participates and monitors compliance local, state and federal programs
  • Makes recommendations to improve environmental performance based on interpretations and professional practices
  • Uses complicated environmental assessment equipment
  • Proficient in data verification, correlation and preparation of EHS reports
  • Performs calculations, data entry, data analysis, field monitoring and report writing
  • May provide leadership to EHS technicians
  • Acts a technical advisor to a complicated location
  • Develops and conducts EHS training
  • Preferred: All of the above plus EHS management systems, specifically ISO14001 experience.

Physical Demands
  • Stand, sit or walk short distances for up to 10 hours per day
  • Climb stairs and ladders on an occasional basis
  • Exert up to 45 pounds of force to lift, push or pull on a frequent basis
  • Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects repetitively on a frequent basis
  • May reach, stoop, kneel, or bend occasionally
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required including respiratory protection

Environment -
  • Must be able work in hot or cold environments inside or outside buildings, possibly in a significant amount of personal protective equipment.

The selection of the person to be hired for this position is contingent on the candidate having export compliance eligibility for access to U.S. controlled technology which comes under the licensing jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of State, International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the U.S. Department of Commerce, Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
