Location: Stewart Manor, NY Description: Transport Engineer | Garner City, NY | 12+ Months contract
Long Distance Transport Engineer responsible to define, engineer, and resolve network capacity requirements for ultra-long haul transport network utilizing high capacity next generation lightwave and wave division multiplexing technologies to meet network services capacity, vulnerability, diversity and growth requirements.
Perform equipment engineering for network augments.
This includes developing the specifications required for installation, turn-up, inventory, and configure the equipment, obtaining appropriate management approvals, issuing purchase orders, creating applicable diagrams/ drawings, and ensuring vendor delivery.
You will be responsible for providing detailed diversity analysis for internal groups in support of future customer orders, mesh network growth, and converged core data networks.
Create diversification projects based on user group requirements.
Monitor and optimize ULH network segments. Perform wavelength rearrangements as needed to reduce stranded network capacity. Research and deactivate unused network systems.
Research and identify ULH segments in need of overbuild due to future expiration of fiber/cable/conduit/property leases, network growth, historical requests for network diversity, decommissioning of legacy DWDM platforms, strategic support for Intelligent Edge Network (iEN) expansion.
New build routes include compiling detailed equipment costs, engineering and operations labor costs, as well as coordinating with COE and leased vendors for space/power, leased cable segments.
Support GTNOC by identifying planned maintenance events on leased and owned cable routes.
Coordinate with GTNOC and provide ad-hoc restoration for priority systems in the event of cable outages.
Coordinate with lease contracts organization, capital planning, engineering, project management, operations/RCAT, and internal management to provide recurring reports to detail project progress and identify areas where attention is needed to progress projects.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR?
Strong technical knowledge
BS or minimal 5 years experience in the telecommunications industry
Experience with engineering, Planning, and/or Operations knowledge, especially with Local and Long-Haul Telecommunications networks
Excellent knowledge of PC and software application including Windows and MS Office
Optimally you would also have?..
Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to manage multiple, often conflicting priorities to their successful completion
Excellent verbal & written skills for inter-organizational communications to both internal & external; partners
Experience making independent decisions based on policies, practices & project requirements
