Electrical Technician IV

Work Mode: Onsite

Location:  Spartanburg, SC

Opportunity

Responsible for the efficient and effective troubleshooting, debugging, and repair of manufacturing equipment.  Perform program changes and enhancements on PLC's, robots, HMI's, and other control systems.  Direct and perform maintenance and repairs to equipment as needed to support the Spartanburg plant.  This to include but not limited to fabrication; locating and installing; and troubleshooting and repair of production tools and plant equipment.  Work to be performed in accordance with all safety guidelines, plus specific guidelines and instructions from Supervision.  Associate should have knowledge and experience in the following areas:

  • PLC, HMI, Motion Control, Robot Programming & Training
  • Troubleshooting Automated Equipment
  • Basic PC Knowledge/Skills
  • Microsoft Operating Systems
  • Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Visual Basic)
  • Preventive Maintenance
  • Understanding of Electronics (Board level troubleshooting)
  • Soldering of electronic components
  • Electrical wiring & testing
  • Pneumatics

Specific Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the efficient and effective troubleshooting, debugging, and repair of the manufacturing equipment. Perform program creation / changes on PLC's, PCs, motion controllers, robots, HMI's, and other control systems
  • Ability to work on small and large projects as assigned.
  • Development and maintenance of technical reference materials
  • Lead and/or assist with new equipment installations.
  • Train others on equipment operation and troubleshooting
  • Perform equipment preventive maintenance
  • Development/Improvement of preventive maintenance and spare parts system
  • Ability to work in a team environment and participate in team projects
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision
  • An ability to interpret and follow machine and electrical diagrams and operation manuals
  • Be aware of OSHA standards, and unsafe work conditions to avoid injury or accident
  • Ability to perform simple to intermediate welding, torch cutting, pipefitting, plumbing, and carpentry tasks - a plus
  • Proficiently utilize a wide variety of electrical and mechanical test and calibration equipment
  • Must be knowledgeable in use of computer communication with devices such as PLC's or Kohler's network
  • May be required to demonstrate qualifications by performance testing
  • Perform special projects and other duties as may be assigned
  • Develop production processes, systems, and equipment to improve efficiency and reduce scrap & downtime.  May require working in a production cell, making product, performing production operations and duties.
  • All associates are responsible for following all required rules and to report any unsafe conditions in their work areas.  They are to report any near miss as well as any injury in a timely manner.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Organizational Relationships:

  • Will be expected to work with engineering, production, and other associates as required
  • Will be expected to assist in the training and instruction of other associates

External Business Relationships:

  • Will, as directed by supervision, be required to communicate and work with various vendor representatives
  • Limited travel, as may be deemed necessary, as the representative of the facility.

Skills/Requirements

  • Must be a self starter and a quick study
  • Capable of learning new technologies quickly
  • Working knowledge of PLC's, PCs, HMI's, motion controllers, robots, and other forms of controls used on automated machinery.  Must be able to assemble and program these systems from scratch.
  • Capable of reading and understanding electrical, pneumatic, mechanical, and hydraulic schematics/drawings
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Decision-making skills
  • Good troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills (Analytical).
  • Working knowledge of hand tools, power tools (Grinders, sanders, drills, saws, welders) and test equipment (electrical meters, etc.)Technical writing skills - ability to create & develop operation manuals, training guides, & other production documents
  • Experience with ISO9000 and ISO14000 - a plus
  • May be required to work alone, with assistants, or assist other departmental associates in performing assigned tasks.
  • Must do quality work in sufficient quantity to meet requirements and assist in obtaining plant objectives.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Two (2) year trade school degree & seven (7) years on-the-job training or
  • Ten (10) years on-the-job training or
  • Four (4) year technical degree & four (4) years on-the-job training

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires mental concentration and attentiveness
  • Requires sitting, standing, bending, lifting (up to 50lbs), walking, squatting, climbing, and reaching
  • Good hand to eye coordination
  • Exposure to harsh environments both in-plant and outside plant is possible

Other Requirements:

  •  Extended work hours, weekend work, shift (nights), etc. as may be required by business necessity
