Job Summary

The Director, Data/Data Governance within Data Stewardship (DS) for Data & Analytics (D&A) is accountable for leading an enterprise wide information governance strategy, designing and negotiating data sharing relationships and governance processes, and coordinating implementation across domains (R&D, Commercial, & Corporate).

The position will focus on establishing and ensuring adherence to an enterprise information governance framework for information related policies, standards and tools across domains, taking into account domain specific requirements in order to achieve the required level of consistency, quality and protection to meet overall business needs.

This Director must be comfortable interacting with and influencing senior members of R&D, Commercial, and Corporate functions, standing up new enterprise capabilities, and mentoring senior and junior staff.

Job Description

Reporting to the Sr. Director DS, this leader will become a driving force of change and provide leadership, oversight and strategic direction for an enterprise wide information governance strategy.

  • Lead and manage all organization-wide information governance activities
  • Serve as a point of escalation for governance and work closely with the Director, Data Quality and Standards to improve/ensure data quality and protection
  • Establish and govern an enterprise information governance implementation roadmap including strategic priorities for development of information-based capabilities
  • Facilitate an enterprise wide information governance framework with emphasis on modifications to organizational behavior, policies and standards, principles, governance metrics, processes, related tools and data architecture
  • Define roles and responsibilities related to information governance and ensure clear accountability for stewardship of the company's principal information assets; Accountable for IG Office and IG Operations activities
  • Serve as a liaison between Business and Functional areas and technology to ensure that data related business requirements for protecting sensitive data are clearly defined, communicated and well understood and considered as part of operational prioritization and planning
  • Manage and leverage IG Cross Functional Business Network
  • Support and leverage enterprise data catalog and information maps, including authoritative systems, owners
  • Work closely with the Director, Data Quality & Standards to support and assist in the development and implementation of data quality standards, data protection standards and adoption requirements across the enterprise
  • Provide progress reports to Senior Management and oversee periodic updates to the Enterprise Information Governance Roadmap
  • Work closely with Director, Data Lifecycle Management and Associate Director, Data Scouting and Relationship lead role/s to coordinate external data sources to eliminate redundancy and streamline the expense related to those services
  • Work closely with Director, Data Lifecycle Management and Associate Director, Data Scouting and Relationship lead role/s to identify new business opportunities pertaining to the use of information assets to achieve efficiency and effectiveness in the marketplace / represent data as a strategic business asset at the Senior Management table
  • Function as a knowledge base and resource to project teams. Serves as a point of escalation and resolution for quality issues
  • Model and coach engagement best practices that enable thought partnership and engender a collaborative environment with robust debate; Furthering the partnership and impact of Data Stewardship at Otsuka
  • Foster a culture that focuses on the achievement of goals and personal accountability, through the setting of objectives and expectations, monitoring to plan, the redirection as needed and the celebration of achievements
  • Foster a culture that embraces the strategic use of data into decision making enabling greater business outcomes
  • Builds a learning culture within and external to Data Stewardship, where individuals are provided growth and development opportunities
  • Accountable for ensuring collaborations and communications with key stakeholders of Data Stewardship

Qualifications

Required
  • Experience working within the pharmaceutical industry and experience leading teams within information/data governance capabilities, data operations/data management/analysis & reporting environments.
  • Knowledge of information/data governance practices, business and technology issues related to management of enterprise information assets and approaches related to data protection
  • Knowledge of data related pharmaceutical regulatory requirements and emerging trends and issues
  • Experience driving large, complex change efforts and to drive results through influence, persuasion and relationships.
  • A passion for solving complex data challenges and desire to thrive in a constantly innovating and changing environment
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through ambiguity and build / grow a capability
  • Highest personal and professional integrity and strong work ethics

Education / Experience
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum 10-12 years data related experience within the pharmaceutical industry.
  • 3-5 years of leadership responsibilities.


Preferred
  • Masters in Computer Science, MIS, Information Management or related
  • Line and performance management experience.
