The Role:

This position will provide technical leadership for the Chromalox portfolio with a responsibility to design, develop, and deliver new connected products. Working as part of the Research & Development team, this position will lead and support the broader Digital Strategy group by integrating IOT connectivity into new products and developing retrofit solutions.

The Digital R&D Engineer will have a highly collaborative role that will provide the opportunity to work with stakeholders from across the Chromalox business, customers, and the wider ETS Group. It will also support such functional roles as product feature training, customer onboarding, product maintenance, in-field support/service, and product upgrades.

Other functions include designing and developing new products and premium solutions or performing major re-design of existing products to improve value. Reviews and ensures adequate and accurate inputs and effectively evaluates and plans for all necessary work. They are responsible for managing projects and working with appropriate teams to accomplish the work to a successful conclusion.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages projects from concept through design and verification and into product realization; coordinates with other functional departments for successful integration of the product design
  • Conducts feasibility study for a development project to ascertain the capability of designing and manufacturing the product and is responsible for accepting or giving reasonable rejection and feedback as required.
  • Responsible for preparing drawings, specifications, sequences, and other related engineering documentation.
  • Coordinates with third-party approval agencies to ensure proper sample selection and testing.
  • Plans and develops experimental test programs and conducts tests and witnesses tests as needed to support the validation/certification of products or solutions.
  • Supports the planning, layout, and development of product configuration systems.
  • Supports training of other functions (Engineering, Operations, and Sales) to ensure the project's successful implementation.
  • Participate in standards committees to help influence future specifications and stay aware of industry trends.
  • Research new design technologies and design development ideas with a bias toward product integration for unique customer solutions.
  • Participate in laboratory experimentation on new technology discoveries.

Required Experience
  • At least 3+ years of experience in an associated engineering position.
  • Bachelor's Degree in an engineering discipline from a four-year college or university; master's degree and related experience or training in a related field preferred.
  • Electrical design, PLC code, firmware, and/or software as appropriate to the position and knowledge of relevant design and safety standards preferred.
  • Familiarity with machine communication language (such as Modbus) and protocols
  • Basic understanding of IOT products, IT structures, and Internet-ready communications
  • Ability to interpret equipment operating parameters for operational analysis; artificial intelligence (AI) experience preferred.
  • Experience in a product development and certification environment; familiarity with relevant manufacturing processes.
  • Working experience with typical computer software applications, such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentation software.
  • Proven experience managing multiple projects.
