FECON, LLC is a vegetation management equipment manufacturer located in Lebanon, Ohio near Kings Island Amusement Park. Job Summary:

The Design Engineer is responsible for the creation of innovative, cost-effective product designs that are properly documented for manufacturing; the accurate, timely management of assigned projects; and provides technical expertise that assists in the resolution of production related issues.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Acts as a technical product expert and resource to assist customers and internal teams in resolving escalated product technical and operational issues as well as production, rework and critical technique issues. Actively participates in customer visits to troubleshoot onsite complex technical issues.
  • Acts as a technical expert for field campaign information to assist Customer Service with repair or update documentation for all affected machines and ensure they are in working order.
  • Participates in gate meetings to report out on project status, design or specification issues, etc.
  • Designs, modifies, documents, and implements efficient, cost-effective, safe and reliable products using CAD software in accordance with defined timelines.
  • Participates in bi-weekly project team meetings to provide status updates, discuss changes, and prioritize tasks.
  • Collaborates with the Research & Development Manager, Product Manager, and Engineering Manager on the development of new products. Provides insights and ideas for new products, understands feasibility and marketability potential, troubleshoots and resolves complex project and design issues, and makes design changes as necessary.
  • Collaborates with product management to define and fine tune product specifications to create a mutually beneficial solution that meets customer requirements and organizational goals.
  • Requests quotes for new parts and materials for design changes and product development.
  • Collaborates with Purchasing to obtain the materials necessary for design changes and new product development.
  • Collaborates with the Engineering Manager to assist with finding cost reduction solutions; requests reports from the MRP system to aid in costing and design change decisions.
  • Collaborates with Production Administration on the use of parts and design changes that affect inventory and MRP system information. Utilizes the MRP software to set up part numbers and bills of materials.
  • Reviews designs with the Engineering Manager for approval and feedback on alignment with product specifications, cost-effectiveness, safety, and reliability.
  • Performs engineering change notices (ECN) to drive the resolution of quality issues; Assists with the implementation and execution of the (ECR) and (ECN) process.
  • Works with production teams and operations staff to coordinate the timing and understand the effects of design changes on Production. Ensures Floor Supervisors have possession of and comprehend the most current drawings, production changes, and build procedures. Seeks feedback from production on proposed process and design changes and implements changes as necessary.
  • Collaborates with the R&D manager on the design and construction of fixturing for parts prior to assembly.
  • Collaborate with vendors to troubleshoot reliability concerns and select new and existing components for products.
  • Utilizes the Sr. Vice President of Product Development as a resource for coaching, guidance, and the prioritization of projects.
  • Mentors and assigns tasks to co-ops as needed. Reviews and approves co-op designs to ensure alignment with product specifications, cost-effectiveness, safety and reliability.
  • Participates in maintaining and conducting inventory to ensure an accurate account of parts and supplies available.
  • Actively participates in engineering related continuing education and training. Utilizes supply vendors as an educational resource for the operation of new equipment and expertise on the innovation of supply usage in efforts to enhance the performance of FECON's products.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Ability to speak with poise and confidence and read write and speak proper English, public speaking and presenting.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills, conflict resolution, project management skills.

Education and Experience:
  • Minimum of 2-year degree in Engineering. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
  • 2-4 years of engineering-related experience in a co-op or work-related role.

Physical Requirements:
  • Communicates orally and in writing; and hears at a conversational level.
  • Required to sit, use fingers to grip with pressure, twist or bend the wrists, and keep wrists in prolonged positions of flexion or extension.
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, climb ladders of up to 3 ft. in height, reach, twist while rotating the torso, lift up to 35lbs., use hands to grip with pressure, keep feet in prolonged positions of flexion or extension. Must be able to traverse the production facility.
  • Infrequently required to kneel, crawl, balance, climb up to 20 stairs, bend repeatedly, pull, push, and carry up to 50lbs., lift 35-50 lbs., and operate hand controls.
  • Rarely the employee will be required to perform hand over hand pulling and operate foot controls.
  • Frequently works around moving vehicles and wears safety glasses.
  • Occasionally works outdoors, in cold below 55 degrees and between 90-110 degrees Fahrenheit, around greases and oils, in the presence of vibrations and dust that is greater than a nuisance, and with machinery with moving parts.
  • Infrequently works in heat exceeding 100 Degrees Fahrenheit, with thread-locking fastening chemicals, in the presence of disagreeable or unpleasant odors, work with ladders or scaffolds, with hands in water, cutting oils, or solvents, work in a confined space, alone, wear ear plugs, hard hat, safety boots, or safety gloves, and travel by plane, train, or motor vehicle with overnight stays.
  • Rarely will be required to wear a respirator or body protection, work below ground, in the presence of mists, or around noxious or harmful odors such as paint fumes and exhaust.
