The Ohio State University College of Dentistry seeks a Dental Assistant to join the Division of Periodontology. The Division of Periodontology provides dental service to the community for all of their periodontal needs, and its periodontal faculty, graduate students and staff provide high quality patient care for the citizens of Ohio by offering a full range of periodontal procedures which include scaling and root planning (deep cleaning), soft tissue grafting (gum grafts), bone grafting (to treat periodontal disease), implant surgery (for the replacement of teeth) and a wide variety of other periodontal procedures, such as treatment of gummy smiles.

This position provides chairside assistance to faculty and students in the division of Periodontology in the College of Dentistry; takes radiographs; orders and maintains supplies and equipment; cleans and maintains dental operatories and equipment; prepares surgical tray set-ups; maintains patient records; cleans and sterilizes equipment.

Schedule
Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Compensation:

$17.10 - $22.61/hour based on experience.

Position Requirements

This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check and drug and alcohol screening.

A Dental Assistant needs to be able to: use of both hands, dexterity in the fingers and the ability to manipulate instruments, materials, dental hand pieces, and operate dental equipment. The use of feet is necessary to manipulate dental equipment. The body must be able to work from a dental stool in order to perform most dental procedures. The ability to sit and stand for duration of time is also necessary. Other specific requirements include color spectrum differentiation; manual dexterity/motor coordination, hand-eye coordination, physical communications; visual acuity and communication/language development. Individuals in this position may be exposed to the following: blood borne pathogens; chemical hazards (skin irritants); vibrating equipment; and latex.

Education Required
Required: High School diploma or GED. Certification/Vocational training required; dental surgical assisting preferred. Dental X-Ray Machine Operator permit from the Ohio State Dental Board required. 1 year of relevant experience required.

MUST PASS HEALTH STANDARDS AND REQUIREMENTS PRESCRIBED BY LAW PRIOR TO APPOINTMENT (e.g., hepatitis, vaccination series, and TB test). Must be registered with the Ohio Dental Board as a Dental Assistant Radiographer. Current BLS/CPR certification.


Desired: 2-4 years of relevant experience preferred. Computer literacy including Microsoft Office and internet/e-mail; formal dental assisting training; chairside surgical assisting experience (periodontal or oral surgery); private practice experience and knowledge of a wide variety of dental instruments; data entry and maintenance of electronic health records.
