Position Summary: Combines direct experience working with seniors with skills in technology to provide computer instruction and supervision of all computer learning centers to insure that a consistent, high quality and effective learning experience is provided to all seniors students: insures that all facilities are utilized to the greatest extent possible; and reaches out to other community groups who might be potential users of the facility. Plans, organizes and coordinates all activities of the computer learning center including curriculum, in class-activities, program development, and supervision of Center workers.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Advertise and promote within the community computer instruction at the Benjamin Rosenthal Senior Center.
  • Develop and maintain a database of student registration files, fees, utilization statistics, and mailing lists.
  • Develop fee for service programs.
  • Develop and maintain a standardized teaching curriculum at all Queens senior centers offering computer classes.
  • Instruct classes and assist students as needed.
  • Supervise registration and conduct student evaluation and orientation sessions. Coordinate fee collections with the Center staff.
  • Prepare daily lessons and materials.
  • Develops new computer learning centers at other sites as funding becomes available and coordinate computer classes, working with the center directors and instructors in their execution.
  • Develops amiable working relationships with clients, get feedback and continuously assess customer satisfaction.
  • Conduct fundraising initiatives specific to the computer learning center.
  • Seeks out fee for service opportunities that will generate revenue for the computer learning center.
  • Supervise all volunteers and assistants that are assigned to the computer learning center, including supervision of the intergenerational program.
  • Meet monthly (or more frequently if necessary) with Senior Center Director and Division management to review activities and assess progress of the program.
  • Provides occasional PC Support to Flushing Campus as requested by the Director of IT and Facilities Management and as time permits.
  • Provides project management leadership depending on the scope of the project and at the request of supervisors
  • Monitors inventory of computer paper, printer toner cartridges and other supplies.
  • Troubleshoot minor problems with the hardware and software and communicates other problems to the IT Department.
  • Remain current with technology and enhance the program with new technology as appropriate.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Adheres to organization’s standards by completing annual mandatory trainings in a timely manner on topics including – but not limited to – Sexual Harassment Prevention Training, IT Security Awareness, Compliance, OSHA, HIPAA and any other training the organization may deem necessary in regards to regulatory compliance or good business practices.
  • Supports organization’s mission by striving for excellence in all aspects of their job with a focus on positive interpersonal relationship with co-workers.
  • Adheres to the organization’s policy in regards to absenteeism and appearance and health and safety standards.


  • Job Competencies & Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Directly supervises 3 to 7 senior volunteers; interviewing, hiring, and training volunteers; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining volunteers; addressing complaints and resolving problems
  • Computer literate
  • Excellent verbal, mathematical, and written skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Able to multi-task and work independently with a great attention to detail


  • Working conditions/Physical Demand:
  • Business office environment with phone and computer use.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
