Responsibilities

This position will be responsible for maintaining Building Automation Systems programs, instrumentation, and hardware for campus Utility Plants. Responsible for remaining current with new systems entering these buildings through projects or system upgrades. Provides direct support to the Critical Systems shop, as well as the zones, and shops, as it relates to campus building systems. Support training for control technicians on the correct use of software and troubleshooting tools. Assist the BAS Network Specialist with troubleshooting and correcting known system deficiencies. Also works to prevent system or network failures.

Responsible for the commissioning, diagnosis, calibration, maintenance, and repair of environmental-control systems and processes, utilizing knowledge of electronics, direct digital control (DDC), airflow, hydronics, refrigeration theory, flow meters, electrical meters, and system control techniques. Will troubleshoot electrical systems, program programmable logic controllers, and install and perform complex testing of automation systems, including digital, electronic, mechanical, and hydraulic components. Work with all electrical components, relays, sensors, AC and DC motors, drivers, and pneumatics systems.
Responsible for operating and maintaining a TCPIP networking system including servers, hubs, routers, workstations, and cabling used in the operation of the utility plants and the daily operation of the Utilities Plants. Corrects known system deficiencies and proactively works to prevent system or network failure.

Perform regular tests on connected systems, sensors, and associated hardware. Repairs maintains, and calibrates electronic, solid state devices and pneumatic controls used within the utility plants and/or connected to the building automation system. Assists with scheduling, troubleshooting, and repairing communication issues from the servers to the end-of-line controllers or devices.
Replaces and upgrades field panels and/or other controls. Replaces and upgrades variable frequency drives, including the P1 or BACnet network connection to the Siemens Desigo/Apogee system.
Works with the Network Specialist, Energy Engineer, Controls Engineer, Plant Engineer, Power Plant Supervisor(s), and Facility Engineer to keep all control systems, and mechanical and electromechanical field devices operating according to the basis of design.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; or a high school diploma/equivalency and four years of experience.

(Note: combination of post high school education and experience equal to four years.)

A valid State of Florida or Georgia driver's license or the ability to obtain prior to hire.

  • Knowledge of principles, concepts, and methodology in designing, estimating, planning, and inspecting construction projects and managing project schedules.
  • Knowledge of processes, procedures, and methods used in master planning.
