We are seeking a Biological Resources Technical Leader to join our Sacramento-based team supporting projects nationwide. This role will lead our biology department and will be a core member of the MEG Northern California Consulting leadership team.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

This role will be responsible for a full range of activities including:
  • Leads, motivates, and evaluates a team of professional biologists to meet the needs of the business
  • Delegates, prepares, and completes project deliverables including biological reports for compliance with CEQA/NEPA, and 401/404/1600 permit applications
  • Coordinates the execution of plant/wildlife/habitat surveys and associated reporting, wetland delineations, stream assessments and biological permitting
  • Provides quality control oversight and assures the technical accuracy of biology team deliverables
  • Interfaces with clients, and prepares project budgets, schedules tasks, reviews field activities invoices, and approves labor time, costs, and procurement requests
  • Identifies and pursues new business opportunities and prepares cost estimates and proposals
  • Liaisons with clients and communicates project objectives to direct report(s) as needed
  • Ensures all operational permits and programs are compliant with environmental and safety regulations
  • Ensures environmental compliance of field and lab data with regards to permits and regulatory standards
  • Conducts performance reviews and provides feedback for development of direct reports
  • Keeps up-to-date and current on industry trends by completing formal training, reviewing professional publications, and attending professional workshops
  • Performs other duties as assigned
NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications
  • 4-year degree in Biology, Environmental Studies, Botany, Fisheries, Forestry, Wildlife, or a closely-related field
  • 15+ years experience conducting biological studies, impact analyses, permitting, and similar activities
  • 5+ years experience managing a team of direct reports
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to conduct biological tasks for multiple projects simultaneously and consistently deliver projects on time and within budget
  • Strong verbal communication skills, including experience communicating to municipalities and regulatory agencies such as the USFWS, USEPA, USACE, CalFire, and CDFW
  • Strong writing skills, including experience writing biological studies (BAs, wetland delineations, etc.), permit applications, and sections for CEQA/NEPA compliance documents
  • Working knowledge of CEQA, NEPA, ESA Section 7, CWA Section 401 and 404 permits, CDFW Streambed Alteration Agreements, CDFW ITPs, and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software, Google and/or PC programs
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing exceptional client service
  • Willingness and ability to travel as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in fisheries stream assessments, wetland delineations, and/or forestry
