Position SummaryThe Department of Translational Neuroscience seeks applicants for a position within its Parkinson's disease research team. This nationally recognized team conducts clinical research and employs cellular and animal models to understand the causes, consequences, and develop potential therapeutic strategies for PD. Areas of focus include alpha-synuclein biology, neuroinflammation, levodopa-induced dyskinesias, deep brain stimulation, aging, and epigenetic contributors to degeneration. The ideal candidate will develop a distinct research program that complements existing research foci, collaborate with existing faculty to broaden Parkinson's disease research, and enhance offerings for the mentoring and instruction of graduate trainees. This position is located at the Grand Rapids Research Center, 400 Monroe St NW, Grand Rapids, MI.

Minimum RequirementsThe position requires a PhD or equivalent with a record of continuous and sustained scholarship in Parkinson's disease research commensurate with experience. An established track record of participating in multidisciplinary team-based collaborations is essential. Dedication to mentoring students/fellows should be evident. Applicants for associate professor with tenure should have a successful, active, extramural funding history in Parkinson's disease research.
Desired QualificationsThe scope of the candidate's research program should demonstrate a commitment to translational efforts bridging basic science discoveries with clinical application. Research focus including but not limited to basal ganglia circuit dynamics, cognition, astrocyte/microglial biology, synaptic transmission, or lysosomal function is desired. Methodological expertise in two photon calcium imaging, optogenetics, and in vivo electrophysiology are particularly desirable. Current, extramurally funded, researchers area particularly encouraged to apply.
