Asst. Professor Companion Animal Theriogenology
Position SummaryThe Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Michigan State University, invites applications for a full-time, renewable faculty appointment at the level of Assistant Professor in Companion Animal Theriogenology. The appointment can be in either our Tenure System or Health Programs System based on the interests and qualifications of the applicant. The successful applicant will lead the development of a clinical Companion Animal Theriogenology service as an extension of the MSU primary care service. The applicant will also work closely with the specialty services in surgery, internal medicine, and emergency medicine. A variety of endoscopic and diagnostic imaging equipment is already available, and additional equipment and supplies will be provided in consultation with the selected applicant to ensure that they have the ability to practice state-of-the-art Companion Animal Theriogenology. The successful candidate will receive mentorship and career development guidance towards becoming the inaugural Kalter-Lezotte Endowed Professorship in Small Animal Theriogenology. This professorship is being established to increase knowledge in the field of purebred animal health, with Companion Animal Theriogenology as the primary disciplinary focus.
Another important aspect of the position will be to assist in the education of the next generation of veterinary clinicians, and there will be ample opportunities to participate in the pre-clinical and clinical teaching of veterinary students and house officers. Opportunities exist to lead or engage in research with endocrine and reproductive health specialists across a wide spectrum of disciplines (see https://rdsp.canr.msu.edu/faculty) Michigan State University also has two human medical schools on campus providing unique and exciting opportunities for collaborative activities. Such activities are encouraged at both the Departmental and College level, and support is available for grant writing, locating external funding resources, and processing grant submissions. Internal funding opportunities are also available through endowed research funds. The College of Veterinary Medicine has active faculty development and mentorship programs to facilitate career progression.

Desired QualificationsBoard certification in the American College of Theriogenologists or the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine is preferred. Board-eligible candidates and those with a demonstrated track record in Companion Animal Theriogenology also will be considered. The candidate must have excellent communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively within a team. Advanced research degree will be considered favorably.
