Position Summary

The Associate Head Coach assists the Head Coach in the administration of all aspects of the sport program including coaching and coordinating the defense, being the recruiting coordinator, organizing and solidifying fall and spring scheduling, supervising sports personnel, budget management, student-athlete mentoring, team travel, equipment, meals, technical logistics, and ensuring program compliance with NCAA, Conference, and University rules and regulations. The Associate Head Coach will embrace and model a positive coaching philosophy and associated techniques; insisting on a culture of respect and positive communication. The Associate Head Coach will demonstrate an on-going commitment to the principles of multiculturalism and diversity through hiring practices, training and development programming, campus collaborations, or involvement and participation in university/divisional multiculturalism and diversity projects or initiatives.

Essential Functions

  • Manage entire program in the absence of the head coach
  • Coordinate the recruitment of future student athletes
  • Assist with the coordination of the support staff and oversee all elements of the program
  • Oversee and coordinate all aspects of the team defense
  • Assist with the fall and spring scheduling
  • Handling the programs daily volleyball operations- coordinating its travel itineraries, and overseeing the teams student managers, gym set-up, etc
  • Technical coordination Video and statistical analysis. Have a full understanding/knowledge of Data Volley and/or Volley Station.
  • Exhibiting the highest professional standards and ethical behavior with regard to adherence to NCAA, Conference, University, and the Department of Athletics and Recreations Code of Ethics.
  • Achieving competitive results that demonstrate athletic excellence.
  • Demonstrating a sincere interest in the social, emotional, academic development, as well as the athletic welfare of student-athletes.
  • Exhibiting supportive and cooperative behavior in pursuing sport program goals established by the Head Coach.
  • Exhibiting leadership and professional behavior in dealing with student-athletes.
  • Participating in continuing education conferences, workshops, or meetings to increase professional skills and knowledge.
  • Contributing to the maintenance of good working relationships with all members of the Division.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as business periodicals professional journals or government regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and develop related spreadsheets.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, ratios, and percentages.
  • Quantitative and qualitative reasoning are necessary.
  • Strong negotiation, conflict resolution and problem solving ability is necessary.
  • The ability to exercise good decision-making under pressure is necessary.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills required. Excellent communication and public relation skills. Commitment to the academic success of student-athletes.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills strong organizational skills.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree
  • Previous coaching experience
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations with demonstrated exemplary ethical conduct and conformance to NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Experience with Data Project/Volley
  • Ability to support high academic standards and to motivate students.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters degree
  • Previous Division I coaching experience
Working Environment

Standard office environment.
Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period.
Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs. with assistance.

Work Schedule
Work hours vary. Normal office hours are 8-4:30pm Weekends and evenings are required during the Volleyball Season.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 10.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $65,000-$75,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate's sex or any other protected status.
