Hays have exclusively partnered with a globally renowned organization in the Washington DC area who are looking to hire an Associate Director to lead their Architecture and Planning department. My client is interested in engaging with architects with 10-15+ years of experience in commercial construction projects, who have the passion to manage a team and contribute to the overall success of the organization's design programs.

Your new role

As an Associate Director you will take lead of the departments architect and planning efforts, collaborating with a team of 6 co-workers to ensure the successfully oversight and management of the programs being run. The core projects that this Associate Director and their team will oversee will include renewal projects, interior fit outs, existing facility renovations and additions and infrastructure upgrades. Critical to this position is your ability to work with multiple internal departments to contribute to the wider success of the architecture and planning, real estate, design and construction and facilities management teams and programs. In addition, you will be responsible for managing the oversight and performance of external architecture firms hired by the organization. This is a leadership position; you need to passion about managing and leading architects and senior architects in your day-to-day role, as well as have excellent communication, problem solving, and time management skills.

What you'll need to succeed

A necessity to be successful in this role is to have at least 10-15+ years of experience in architecture, design and planning within the commercial construction industry. Your experience could either come working directly for an end user such as an institution or you career could have developed working for an architectural firm. You will also have experience in managing a team of architects, senior architects, or project managers in your current or previous role. A bachelor's degree in architecture is required as well as you are holding your professional architect license, out of state to the DMV if it can be reciprocal. Proficient use of technology software including AutoCAD, Revit, Google SketchUp and Bluebeam is highly preferred.
