The Department of Natural Resource Ecology and Management(NREM) at Oklahoma State University (OSU) invites applications for a full-time,11-month, tenure-track position, approximately 75% OSU Extension and 25% OSU AgResearch appointment.

Extension Component: The mission of the OklahomaCooperative Extension Service is to disseminate information to the people ofOklahoma and encourage the adoption of research-generated knowledge. The faculty member will provide leadership inplanning, implementing and continually evaluating a state-wide wildlifeextension education and outreach program. Program emphasis will includeintrinsic values of game and non-game wildlife resources. Audiences willinclude wildlife, forestry and range professionals, private landowners andmanagers of rangelands, forests and farms, wildlife interest groups, and thepublic. This position will provide the following: 1) the integration of naturalresources planning and management as a part of overall agricultural production(forest, range, farm) activities; 2) continuing education programs forwildlife, forestry, and range management professionals, as well as Extensionpersonnel; 3) curricula, training and support for Extension, Tribal, local,state and Federal agency professional field staff; 4) maintain professionalliaison and develop cooperative programs with academic colleagues, industryprofessionals, and state, federal, and private natural resource managementagencies; 5) public education regarding beneficial relationships associatedwith sound wildlife habitat management practices on forest, range, and farmlands; and 6) work in collaboration with youth education faculty on developingage-appropriate educational materials.

Research Component: The faculty member will be expected to workcollaboratively with research faculty in the NREM department (including theOklahoma Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit), in other departments atOSU or at other universities to conduct nationally recognized, externallyfunded research in wildlife habitat management in natural areas that directlyyield agricultural products (e.g., forests and rangelands), or are integratedwithin farmland operations. Research direction will be responsive to the needsof the State of Oklahoma, the Southern Great Plains region, and the nation.

Service Component: Service is an important component of this tenuretrack position and is assumed to be a part of the Extension and researchappointment. The Specialist will be expected to serve on Departmental, Divisionand University committees appropriate to interests, responsibilities, andorganizational mission, and provide service to professional wildlife-relatedsocieties (e.g., serving on committees, manuscript reviews, proposal reviews,etc.).

Qualifications:

Qualifications include: 1) aPh.D. in wildlife ecology, wildlife biology, conservation biology, ecology,environmental science, or other related biology, and BS and MS degrees inwildlife or related areas at the time of appointment, 2) demonstrated ability to communicate effectively tothe public and conduct educational programs in natural resource management, 3)demonstrated interest and ability to seek and secure extramural funding tosupport research, and 4) ability and desire to work collaboratively with NREMfaculty, faculty in other departments or universities to address Extension andresearch goals, and 5) ability and interest to work with wildlife and othernatural resource agencies and professionals.

Salary:
Competitiveand commensurate with education, training, and experience.

The Department is also theadministrative home of the Oklahoma Cooperative Fish and Wildlife ResearchUnit.
