The Oregon State University Department of Forest Ecosystems and Society in the College of Forestry is recruiting 2 full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month, Assistant Professors of Practice in Urban Forestry.

Forests in urban areas provide valuable ecosystem services. The expansion of urban areas coupled with growing recognition of the importance of forests, trees, and green infrastructure in these regions makes more critical than ever urban foresters who can help plan and maintain sustainable and resilient forests and greenspaces. As such, we seek individuals who can provide instruction and extension in a wide variety of urban forestry principles such as arboriculture, green infrastructure, planning, policy, tree health, wildland-urban interface, and climate change mitigation. The incumbents will be members of the Department of Forest Ecosystems and Society and the Forestry and Natural Resources Extension (FNR) team that provides non-credit learning experiences on forestry and natural resource issues to a wide range of audiences.

The incumbents will be expected to teach, advise, and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, deliver Extension programming, conduct research and scholarship centered on urban forestry, and other duties that vary between the two Specialist positions.

Oregon State University is committed to creating and maintaining compassionate and inclusive learning and working environments for all learners, visitors, and employees. We envision collaborative community environments that enhance civility and embrace diversity. All employees are responsible for achieving this commitment. This commitment includes, but is not limited to, complying with Civil Rights and Language Access regulations. This individual will design, develop, and maintain and/or carry out Extension programs to ensure that educational programs and outreach activities serve diverse populations, including those that have been historically marginalized/excluded from participation.
