Position Summary

The purpose of this position is to prepare clear, complete, and accurate YKK AP shop drawings with details from architectural plans and specifications along with structural drawings. Utilize CAD (Computer Assisted Drafting) equipment and software to produce final shop drawings for projects by checking dimension of parts, materials to be used, in relation of one part to another, and in a relation of various parts to whole structure/project as it relates to architectural plans and specifications.

Essential Functions and Key Responsibilities

  • Reviews rough sketches, drawings, specifications, and other engineering data received from Application Engineer
  • Produce accurate shop drawings including elevations, details, key plans and revisions
  • Prepare material and accessory take-offs
  • Respond to customer and fabrication department questions and provide support to other employees
  • Provide additional supplemental details to customers.

Qualifications and Skill Requirements

  • Associate's Degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in CAD or mechanical engineering, plus 1 - 3 years of CAD experience in the commercial construction or building facade industry (curtain wall, storefront, window); or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • A highly motivated, team player that is willing to learn and develop knowledge and skills.
  • Able to review, interpret and explain curtain wall, storefront, or related facade shop drawing, architectural and structural drawings is preferred.
  • Experience with 3D Auto CAD software skill and fabrication drawings background is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization
  • Be vigilant about safety
  • Quality - conscious, oriented to excellence
