The Douglas County Court is currently accepting applications for a full time Assistant Clerk II for our Civil/Small Claims Division. This is a highly responsible supervisory, clerical and administrative position assisting the Judges, Judicial Administrator, and Division Manager with the supervision, organization, and general oversight within the Civil/Small Claims Division of Douglas County Court. Douglas County is the largest court in the state of Nebraska handling over 90,000 cases a year and this position plays a critical and intricate role in the operations of the court.

Location: Douglas County Court, Omaha, NE

Schedule: 8-5 M-F

Examples of Work

Work involves a variety of duties including assigning and supervising the work of others within a division, specifically the Civil/Small Claims Division of the county court with data entry functions and processing case filings. The Assistant Clerk II may perform records clerk, accounting clerk, or registrar duties, assign, supervise, and review the work of other employees, answer administrative inquiries, prepare reports, and compile statistics, assist with data entry functions, budget preparations, formulation of office policies and procedures, and may be assigned other duties as required.

Qualifications / Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or its equivalent, plus at least two years of experience working in a court system or related professional environment OR Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Supervisory experience. The ability to speak Spanish is desired but not required. Knowledge and experience in working with civil and small claims cases.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: Successful completion of "on-the-job training" in the use of JUSTICE (the statewide court computer system) within six months will be required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Requirements include knowledge of laws, procedures, policies and operations of the court and Civil/Small Claims, typing skills and computer data entry knowledge; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with personnel at all levels; ability to implement decisions effectively ability to communicate both orally and in writing; abilities to plan, organize, assign and supervise the work of others within the Civil/Small Claims Division of the Court. Proficiency in the use of JUSTICE and DOCKET.
