The Pre-College Area Director is an integral member of the senior Pre-College leadership team, reporting to the Program Director and is responsible for supervising, training, and mentoring 5 Assistant Area Director ACUHO-I interns. We are seeking a candidate ready to immerse themselves in the area
director role and apply their residential and student life experience and skills to develop and lead the day-to-day management and administration of the residential program, while maintaining a regular on-campus presence during the summer program. Prior experience as an area director, assistance area
director, or residential hall director is preferred.

This ACOHO-I internship opportunity provides interns with invaluable real-world, hands-on work experience that can be applied to their current coursework. Experience in residential life, student affairs, collaborative project management, and supporting students from diverse backgrounds align well with
this role. We are seeking candidates who are dynamic, enjoy mentoring staff and students, and foster a positive inclusive campus environment.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Leadership & Management
o Work as a member of the University of Miami Pre-college team; embrace and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion; and foster the conditions for a strong campus community.
o Responsible for residential operations to include hiring, supervising, training, and mentoring a team of 70 residential staff. Directly supervise 7 Assistant Area Director ACUHO-I interns. (Each assistant area director oversees 5-9 Community Assistant each and approximately 75-125 pre-college
students).
o Responsibilities include developing residential staff training materials and workshops; planning and facilitating residential staff meetings; fostering staff development; providing staff performance feedback/conducting staff evaluations; and managing various program initiatives to include prearrival
communications, event, and logistics.
o Actively participate in major events such as residence hall move-in and move-out days as well as the housing assignment process. Serves as a liaison with Conference Housing. Manages room changes, late check-in and early check-out, communicates and follows up on facilities issues, and submits
applicable reports in a timely manner.
o Participate in 'on-call' responsibilities to respond to emergencies and other situations during and after normal business hours.

Student Conduct
o Clearly communicate and apply all Summer Conference Housing policies to the residential staff and students.
o Be knowledgeable on and enforce University of Miami Pre-college and UM Student code of conduct. Document all incidents in a responsible and timely manner, providing the appropriate written
(Incident Reports) and verbal behavioral data relevant to administering guidance and discipline in response to these incidents.
o Assist with the residential disciplinary conduct adjudication process including, but not limited to, ensuring due process, meeting with students, assigning level appropriate informal resolutions, student follow-ups, policy violation documentation, and tracking of such by maintaining accurate student conduct records.
o Respond promptly to emergencies and crisis situations, including managing instances involving various health/medical, behavioral, or other safety-related circumstances.
o Manage student emergency contact information; transport students to/from health facilities as needed (non-emergencies).

Student Life Programming
o Assist with planning and coordinating field trips and transportation logistics.
o Monitor evening and weekend student residence life programs, activities, and events; and chaperone field trips as needed.
o Be knowledgeable of campus resources and provide information when needed.

Additional Information
o Possess a valid driver's license; must be cleared to drive a university vehicle.
o Night and weekend work required.
o Reports to the Program Director; collaborates with Pre-college office staff.
o Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
