Position OverviewThe GEAR UP Program (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is seeking Academic Tutors (temporary positions) to work with students in the graduating classes of 2023 and 2024 in the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (currently in 10th and 11th grades). Tutors will work with students in core academic areas during class time and after school, based on the availability of the tutor and the needs of the school. Work is temporary and the position is not eligible for benefits. The successful applicant will have the ability to work with minimum supervision and must have a strong background in one or more of the following: Mathematics (Algebra, Geometry), Science (Biology, Chemistry), and/or English Language Arts. Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to the target population and the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion in education.
Job Description90% - Tutoring, providing academic and homework assistance to students as assigned.
5% - Attend training as required by the University of Kansas and KCKPS.
5% - Prepare academic tutoring reports and other documentation as required.
Required Qualifications

Proof of at least 60 credit hours from post-secondary institution OR Associate's or Bachelor's degree

Exemplary written and oral communication skills as evidenced by application materials and interview.

Teacher Certification

Experience teaching in KCKPS

Background in STEM

Tutoring Experience

Fluent in Spanish
